"Revoir" Paris !!!

Saturday 19th July

Our short visit to Paris is over but we are left with many wonderful memories. On Bastille Day, we ventured into the city and were delighted to discover that entry to the Louvre was free in honour of the national day so we reacquainted ourselves with Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo and many other wonderful statues, paintings and artefacts. That evening we went to Montparnasse (a tall building rivalling the Eiffel tower in height) and had a perfect view of the Bastille fireworks on the Eiffel Tower. Natalie lasted until halfway through before falling asleep on my lap- it was 11.30pm! It was a magnificent spectacle. The following afternoon Clemence (Natalie’s cousin) arrived to spend two nights and a day with us. The day was spent at EuroDisney and the girls had a fantastic time. The adults enjoyed watching their enthusiasm and joy but didn’t embark on any of the ‘wild’ rides. The girls returned to Space Mountain five times! The final parade and fireworks were truly magical and four weary travellers finally arrived back at our studio at 1am.

On Thursday we travelled back to Charmes in Picardie and spent the evening with Dominic’s Mum. Yesterday we drove to Samoussy to return Clemence home and commence our three week stay with Philippe, Marie-Claude and the family. Natalie and Clemence have become firm friends and spend lots of time in the garden, playing Uno, cuddling the animals and more recently playing ping pong. The pace should slow down a bit now and we plan to catch up on correspondence, reading and Natalie’s schoolwork interspersed with walks in the forest and outings in the region.
