Jolly Good ...!

Week 3

Hello Mr Day and 4/5 S

I’m having a JollyGood time in the Lake District.

We have been to York and Yorkshire too. In York, I went to the York Dungeon. I was a bit scared at first but I calmed down as time went on. They told us stories about how they lived in the olden days. They didn’t use medicine; instead they used leeches to suck the bad blood out of people. We stayed in a hotel that didn’t have a kitchen to cook in. They do give you breakfast but no dinner so we had to go out to have dinner. We went to an Italian restaurant. When we waited, my Dad and I were playing a Hi-Five game and on the third or fourth time I accidentally knocked over the glass that was next to me! My Dad started it! In Yorkshire, we had to do the same thing, go out for dinner. On the way back we saw a newspaper headline saying: A Settle Man Took a Tractor Home! Anyone would take a tractor home! By the way, Settle was where we were staying. Also, in Yorkshire we went for a picnic in Malham Tarn. It was so windy that I put about three jackets over me!

Now, in the Lake District we have been on two brilliant walks. They were called Rydal Water and Cat Bells. Cat Bells was my favourite.  We have also been to William Wordsworth‘s cottage. There was an art gallery, a museum and the house he lived in.

Here is a list of the different words they use:

Beck:  stream

Tarn:  lake

Fell: hill

Dale: valley
